Sophie sat impatiently on a bench outside her english classroom, twirling a pencil as she did so, and humming a tune to one of her new favorite songs. School had just let out for the day, and normally, she would be joining the masses of students rushing out those two giant doors at the end of the hall where she sat, eagerly running to their dorms to procrastinate on homework by hanging out with friends or partying the night away. Yes, on a normal school night, Sophie would be right there with them, but today was different. Today she had to meet with her English professor to discuss her future. What was that? Well, Sophie had a plan. In fact, she had really planned out most of her entire life, really. After high school, she would be off to journalism school, studying to become a hard hitting reporter. Then, after college came graduate school, or a full-time internship, working as hard as she could to land a job with the Associated Press, or possibly as a news anchor for a big name station. She wasn’t sure which yet, but the news anchor was particularly interesting to her at the moment, because for that job, not only could she show off her amazing journalistic skills, but she could show off her appearance as well. But, all of this work and effort were only future plans, of course, and right here, right now, she needed something. She needed to discuss with her new English professor the possibility of a recommendation letter, and help in choosing the right school for her future. Most schools would only take her seriously if she had the outstanding support of her current English professor, since journalism was mostly writing, so good impressions were important.
There was just one small problem with this plan. Sophie couldn’t stand Professor Young. Okay, so maybe that was a little harsh, but there was just something about him that irked her, and she couldn’t explain what it was. Maybe it was that he seemed a little full of himself and snobby, or maybe it was that smirk he continually wore on his face when he knew he was right. Sure, he was attractive. Okay, scratch that. In plastic terms, he was brutally hot. Practically all of her friends had been drooling over him since the first day of school. Maybe that was the real reason she just didn’t like him. Well, whatever it was, she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
So, Sophie sat and waited as all her fellow students walked out of the main school buildings to their dorms, and watched the window of the English classroom to hear something along the lines of “Class dismissed!” from the teacher. Finally, that moment came, and she waited for every last student to leave the room before she entered. ”Hey, Professor Young.” She said nonchalantly, flipping her curly blonde hair over her shoulder as she walked in the room, ”Are you free for a bit? I had something I wanted to talk to you about.” She smiled slightly as she asked him and approached his desk.

derrick was sitting down next to his desk, waiting for the bell to ring so his next class can arrive. so far, he barely had three classes today and gonna be the fourth one in couple seconds. then he sudden heard the bell ring and saw his students finally arriving. he walk toward the whiteboard, writing the subject of what they're gonna discuss today while everyone was heading toward their seats. today the class was gonna learn about the book, the scarlett letter. the book they have to do a book report on that's due next week. after writing the book title on the board, he turn around and look at his students.
the class discussion last for about an hour. while leaning against his desk and telling his students little more information about the book report that's due next week, the bell rings. a sigh escaped from his lips and walk back toward his desk, sitting down on the chair. he look up at his students while they were walking out of the classroom. don't forget the book report on the scarlett letter is due next week. he told his students. he then look back down at the stack of papers he has to grade today. while grading couple papers, he notice one of his students walk inside the room. hello, miss dubois. he said, giving her a friendly smile. she asked him if he was free for a little bit. he thought for a moment before giving her an answer and look down at his desk, stack of papers he had to grade today. he sigh while nodding his head. um, yeah sure. i'm free for a bit. derrick answer her question, looking back at sophie. so, what can i do for you? he asked, wondering why she wants him to do.

Sophie saw him look at the papers lying in front of him, and gave a smile as he agreed to talk for a bit. ”Great.” She said with as much earnesty as she could. Sure, she didn’t particularly want to spend ages with him, since he wasn’t exactly her favorite teacher on campus, but at least he was being nice and obviously putting off work he should be doing. ” Thanks so much.” She tried to keep her smile as she replied.
”Okay, so basically, I’m applying to Journalism school next year. See, I wanna be a news anchor. Or maybe a reporter, I haven’t exactly decided which yet.” Sophie explained, babbling on a bit as she tended to do about herself. What? She was a plastic after all, and she was very important in her own little world. ”But anyway, that’s not important. I really need someone to help me with all the applications and stuff. I mean, I know how to write, duh, but like, I’m really serious about this. I know, I totally don’t look like a serious student or anything,” She continued on. It was true, no one would ever suspect someone like Sophie actually having any direction, other than towards the mall, but she actually did. Her goals were important to her, and were half the reason she stayed sane through her parent’s divorce. At least it was something constant to hold onto. ”but I really, really want this, and I’m willing to work as hard as I can to get into a good school. So, basically, I just need your help with all this, and well, eventually, hopefully, a recommendation letter at the end of the year? I mean, yeah, you like don’t even know me, but that’s why I’m here talking to you, right?” Sophie smiled genuinely at him.
”I mean, you are my English professor this year, and I know the schools I’m applying to will kinda expect a recommendation from you. Unless you end up hating me by the end of all this.” She grinned as she finished her spiel, hoping for a positive answer.

derrick knew sophie wasn't one of his greatest students. she has that look that saids 'i dont care' just by looking at her. thankfully, derrick isnt one of those teachers who points out whose is his favorite student because that would be mean to the others. he thinks everyone is his favorite students, doesn't matter if they're smart or lazy or in sophie's case the 'i dont care' look. he let out a sigh while stopping whatever he was doing. he always stop whatever he's doing just to help whatever one of his students wants. that what makes him a good teacher, spare his free time for a student. he was actually surprise to see sophie here and asking for his help. she hardly ask mister young for help. no problem. So what can I help you on?
derrick was trying to keep up with what sophie was saying, but he couldn't. she was speaking so fast for him to understand she wanted from him. pretty much all he heard was something about a letter recommendation for a journalism school that she wanted to go. he wasn't surprise when she said that she wanted to become a journalism. he heard she was do something that involved with her standing in front of a camera. miss dubios... he was interrupted by sophie as she continued on talking. so he stood there, sitting on his chair while waiting for to be finished. when she stop, he made his move. look, miss dubios...
[/b] he was interrupted once again. so, far now on, he just waited until she was done completely. when he notice that she had finally stop talking and she was looking at him, he finally said something. are you done? can I talk now? derrick joked a little. he wasnt sure about it. he hardly writes letter recommendation for his students, so he was still surprise that sophie was asking him. as for the letter, I dont know. I mean, you haven't really shown me that you deserved that letter recommendation.[/b] he answered, trying to say it in a nice way. Sophie barely noticed his interruptions in her little speech to him. She was so self absorbed in getting out her story of her future, she hadn't even given him a chance to get a word in edge wise.
Sophie raised an eyebrow at him, at firs t unsure if he was kidding or not. ”Yes, I’m done.” She said, semi annoyed, but with a smile of recognition of her own babbling. She knew she liked to talk, and talk, and talk....especially about herself, and sometimes it got the best of her. Frowning and feeling exasperated at his comment, she spoke, ”Well, okay, fine, I know I’m not like, the best in the class or anything,” She said, slightly annoyed that he’d question her at this. Typical Sophie had hoped he’d just agree to her demands, no questions asked. It’s what she was used to, after all, why should anything in her life be any different for her? ”so what do I need to do before you will? Participate more in class? Help grade papers? Tutor some kids? Take care of your dog?” She questioned sarcastically, but partially serious at the same time. She’d do anything to get that letter of recommendation.
”Look. Mr. Young. Haven’t you ever wanted anything so badly, you’d do anything to get it? That’s how I am with my future, and this career. I need to get out of here, and this is the only way I’m gonna do it.” She stated, determined to persuade him to her point of view. It was a true fact, after all, so why shouldn’t he know?

derrick folded his arms and lean them against his chest while waiting patiently for about three minutes for sophie to finish talking. after she told him she was done, he let out a small sigh and placed his hands on top of the desk. he look up at sophie and was wondering what she could do to prove to him that she deserve that letter of recommendation. he got up from the chair and walk toward the front of the desk, leaning against it. he folded his arms and place them against his chest once again. he looked at her while listening to the suggestions she was giving him for what she could to get that letter of recommendation. when he was listening to the suggestions, he couldnt help but quietly laugh at some of them. i'm sorry about that. he said, apologizing while clearing his throat. he knows sophie isn't the smartest or the brightest student but he's happy to see she has some potential. he was impressed to the suggestions and thought about them for a moment. he does need some help grading papers and need help tutoring some students.
all right then. if you want that letter or recommendation from me, i have some things i need you to do. he said with a smirk. can you come by my office later today? i need you to tutor some students of mine for tomorrow's homework. he said, telling sophie what she need to do in order to recieve that letter. he isn't the type of person who would take offers from students but he knows she'll do anything for the letter and he's the type of person who would do anything to help his students; whether if they're his favorite or not.
